The Redlands AYSO Cultural Exchange Program has been an ongoing program in our region for over thirty years, and provides players a unique opportunity to travel outside of the country to play soccer and learn about other cultures.

The Redlands AYSO Cultural Exchange Team consists of players that play in the 16U division in the fall.  In odd-year fall seasons, followed by an even-year spring, a boys team will be selected, and in the even-year fall seasons, followed by an odd-year spring, a girls team will be selected.  (For example, in the 2019-2020 year, a boys team will be selected, and in the 2020-2021 year, a girls team will be selected).  This will ensure that all 16U players have the opportunity to become a part of this exciting program. The coaches are selected in between the fall and spring seasons for the following fall.  Players are selected during the spring season for the following fall.  The team begins fundraising on July 1st and will fundraise throughout the next year in order to raise the required funds for the team to travel over the following summer.

We currently have a partnership with Westerstede, a town in northern Germany.  Traditionally, the team travels to Europe over the summer, and part of the trip includes a homestay in Westerstede.  The families host our players and chaperones for up to one week, and schedule friendly soccer matches with their club’s players, sightsee some of the surrounding areas, and provide an amazing cultural experience.  Likewise, each summer, they also send a soccer team over to Redlands and the families of the cultural exchange team will host their players and chaperones for up to one week.  This is an incredible experience for both the host families and players. In addition, the team travels to other countries (depending on the funds raised) and plays in soccer tournaments or friendly soccer matches, as well as sightseeing and experiencing and learning about other cultures.  It is really a once-in-a-lifetime experience that shouldn’t be missed!
